Malloy Re-Election Twitter Account is Fake

A Twitter account promoting Gov. Dannel P. Malloy's re-election bid is up and running.

The problem is that the account, @DanMalloy4CT, isn't run by anyone affiliated with Malloy, despite a bio that reads: "Please join me as I set out to better our state for our children."

The account was created Monday. Its first tweet was a photo of Malloy at the Columbus Day parade in Branford, along with a line that read "Great to see the crowds at the Greater New Haven Columbus Day Parade in #Branford!"

But Andrew Doba, Malloy’s director of communications, said the account was not run by the governor or anyone associated with him.

Doba said the governor's staff was looking into the issue.

A few minutes following a post from Connecticut Magazine, the Twitter account was updated to explain that the account was a parody. The account, which first started with serious posts and re-tweets of items related to the state, later became a more obvious parody account with tweets about being a frat boy and chugging beers.
