Connecticut Breweries Win Big!
Connecticut breweries took home six prizes at the 16th Annual Great International Beer & Cider Competition held last Friday in Providence, R.I. There were 470 brews and ciders competing from across the U.S. and around the world, with 83 brewers and beer and cider industry professionals acting as judges in a blind-tasting format.
City Steam Brewery, in Hartford, won First Place in the American Pale Ale category, for its Blonde on Blonde ale; Back East Brewing of Bloomfield won top honors in the Brown Porter category; and Thomas Hooker Brewing, also in Bloomfield, got first place in the Strong Beer—Doublebock category for its Doppelbock Lager.
Cavalry Brewing in Oxford had two wins: For its Article 15 Ale (Second Place for American Brown Ale), and its Hatch Plug Ale (Third in the English Bitter category).
Back East Brewing won a Third for its Back East Ale in the American Amber category.
