New Mediterraneo Restaurant to Debut in Norwalk

 

Economic downturn—what economic downturn? It doesn’t seem to have fazed restaurateur Ramze Zakka. His five extant restaurants (four in Fairfield County, one in Westchester) are thriving, and in mid-April, he opens his sixth, Mediterraneo, in the brand-new Hotel Zero Degrees in Norwalk.

The sleek new restaurant and bar promises to be a winner, with floor-to-ceiling windows (that will open out in warm weather) looking out on the Norwalk River and a waterfall. Chef Albert DeAngelis, who's been part of Zakka's Z Hospitality Group for 20 years, has created a menu of crowd-pleasing fare that spans the Mediterranean—bouillabaisse, grilled octopus, buratta with plum tomato confit, grilled marinated lamb kabobs with kofte and wood-fired pizzas made in a brick oven.

Zakka’s other restaurants are Acqua in Westport, Solé in New Canaan, Terra and another Mediterraneo in Greenwich, and Aurora in Rye, N.Y.

“Ramze’s five existing restaurants have become the social and entertainment centers in each of their respective communities,” says Randy Salvatore, owner of RMS Companies, the Stamford-based real estate development firm behind Hotel Zero Degrees (and its sister hotel in Stamford). “And we expect this newest offering will bring the same vitality to our Norwalk hotel.”

“We spent a great deal of time searching the region for the ideal restaurateur who shares our vision and focus,” says Salvatore. “We are so excited about this new collaboration."

The chic new 96-room hotel opens on April 1. It will have a ballroom, rooftop lounge and sun deck, outdoor billiards and table tennis, a putting green and a life-size teak chess set, among other amenities. The ribbon cutting is on April 8 at 4 o'clock.
