"Hey Bartender" Spotlights Dunville's

A new film called Hey Bartender debuts tomorrow night at the Avon Theatre in Stamford. The documentary focuses on two guys trying to achieve their dreams through bartending. One of them's Steve “Carpi” Carpentieri, who owns (and bartends at) Dunville’s in Westport.

Carpentieri, who once worked at GE Credit and Citigroup, has owned the popular neighborhood restaurant in Saugatuck since 1993, but about a year ago, he decided to try elevating its profile by introducing more exotic cocktail fare. He came up with a rotating menu of creative elixirs named after Westport sights, including the Jesup Green, made with Hendricks gin, cucumber, mint, lemon and lime juice and sparkling water, and The Cannons, Milagro blanco tequila, fresh watermelon, hanaero-infused syrup and fresh lime juice. “I thought, ‘if people see the cocktails they’ll also realize that we’re more than a place for beers and shots, burgers and fries,’” he says.

It worked. Getting involved with the film—Douglas Tirola, its director and owner of 4th Row Films, was a customer at Dunville’s—has been an exciting ride. “It was certainly flattering that he found my story of interest,” says Carpentieri.

The documentary deals with the recent renaissance in craft cocktail culture, and features commentary from influential industry exponents such as Charlotte Voisey, William Grant & Sons portfolio manager; Dale DeGroff (“King Cocktail”), and mixologists at hot speakeasy-style bars in New York such as Employees Only and PDT.

The movie at the Avon starts at 7:30. The afterparty’s—where else?!—at Dunville’s. See you there!
