Celebrate Fat Tuesday in Connecticut

All dug out and no place to go? Ready to let off a little steam? Celebrate Fat Tuesday at Mohegan Sun. From 9 to 1 a.m., Feb. 12, The Shops concourse will turn into a Mardi Gras party with a DJ, dancers and entertainers handing out beads. The bar will be offering specialty drinks. After that, you can head over to MIST, where they’ll keep the party going with dancers and an aerialist, and DJ-spun music all night long. (No cover.)

For something a little more authentic, celebrate at Black Eyed Sally’s in Hartford. Kick off the party at the restaurant’s annual All-U-Can Eat Lunch Buffet—jambalaya, blackened catfish, fried chicken, red beans and rice, pulled pork and more for only $12.95. Later, it’s dinner and dancing to the awesome River City Slim & the Zydeco Hogs, from 7:30 to 12:30. (860/278-7427; blackeyedsallys.com)

A more sedate evening can be had at Pond House Café, also in Hartford. There you can get a bargain three-course Cajun dinner of the foods you’re craving—chicken gumbo; cornmeal-encrusted fried catfish with red beans and rice, and Cajun tartar sauce; Chocolate & Chicory "Cup" Cakes with espresso whipped cream—for only $16.55.
