A Royal Win in Greenwich

A Royal Win in Greenwich

Britain's Prince Harry ended his U.S. tour in royal style in Greenwich yesterday with a win at the Sentebale Royal Salute Polo Cup. The Sentebale Land Rover team secured the trophy after teammate Harry beat out Argentine polo great, Nacho Figueras on the St. Regis team, to make the winning goal.

According to a press release sent out by the game sponsor, Royal Salute, the event raised more than a million dollars for the prince’s personal charity. Prince Harry founded Sentebale with Prince Seeiso of the Lesotho royal family, in response to the plight of the most vulnerable of Lesotho's people—many who are victims of extreme poverty and the country's HIV/AIDs epidemic.

Prince Harry commented: “It is wonderful to be here at the Greenwich Polo Club in Connecticut for the Sentebale Royal Salute Polo Cup 2013. The success of our three previous polo events has helped Sentebale make a real difference to the lives of vulnerable children in Lesotho, the Mountain Kingdom of southern Africa.”

Although Connecticut's Gov. Dannel Malloy was not invited to attend the festivities, fashion designers Valentino and Jason Wu, and CBS TV host Gayle King were there to cheer on the prince.
