The Flagpole Radio Café
Those not acquainted with The Flagpole Radio Café in Newtown, are missing something good. The engaging radio-style variety show, created by Jim Allyn, Martin Blanco and Barbara Gaines in conjunction with the Newtown Cultural Arts Commission, is produced monthly in a series at the Edmond Town Hall located right near the town’s legendary flagpole. But there’s still time to catch the show! Treat yourself to seats at the season finale on May 21.
Featured guests are blues musician and singer Guy Davis (son of Ossie Davis and Ruby Dee) and Grammy Award-winning dobro sensation Stacey Phillips. Also on the bill are Jim Allyn and the Flagpole Radio Café Orchestra, who rock the house at all the shows, and witty sketches by the self-contained comedy troupe, Flagpole Shakespeare Repertory Theatre. Musician and radio personality Chris Teskey hosts the show and re-broadcasts it on his celebrated Wednesday-evening program on WPKN radio.
Saturday at 7 p.m. in Edmond Town Hall, 45 Main St., Newtown. Tickets $18. For more information, visit flagpoleproductions.org.
