Ready for Their Hollywood Closeup

Based on the 1938 children's book about a businessman who unexpectedly inherits six pet penguins, the new movie Mr. Popper's Penguins—opening Friday—stars Jim Carrey, Carla Gugino and Angela Lansbury . . . all of whom will be dwarfed in star wattage by all 30 members of Mystic Aquarium's Roger Tory Peterson Penguin exhibit, who were filmed on site last December for appearances in the Twentieth Century Fox release.

You and your little ones have the opportunity to meet a couple of these new-minted Connecticut celebs before they join the "A"-list and refuse to mingle with "the little people." At 6 p.m. tomorrow, everyone's invited to watch as two of the South African penguins, tuxedos donned, will waddle the red carpet in front of Hartford's Bow Tie Palace 17 prior to a special private screening of Popper's. After that ceremony, customers buying tickets to any of the other movies at the cineplex may turn on their cameras in the lobby for a photo opportunity with the birds, meet their trainers, and pick up Mystic Aquarium coupons until 7 p.m.

Just think—it's not your ordinary brush with greatness.

Hartford's Bow Tie Palace 17 & Odyssey Theater is located at 330 New Park Ave. For more info, call (860) 236-6677 or visit bowtiecinemas.com/odyssey-theater.html.
