Award-winning playwright Sarah Ruhl's contemporary farce Melancholy Play is presented this weekend in the "Outside the Box" theater series at Wesleyan University’s Center for the Arts in Middletown through Feb. 26.
The story is about a melancholy bank teller “Tilly,” who has a joyful transformation. The play examines the happiness of melancholy and the melancholy of happiness.

Other works include: Dead Man's Cell Phone (2007), winner of the Helen Hayes Award for Best New Play, and Passion Play: A Cycle (2005), winner of the Kennedy Center Fourth Forum Freedom Award.
