"The Vagina Monologues" Benefit Performances
Attention, feminists, would-be feminists and anyone with a social conscience. This Sunday, April 3, at 1 p.m. and 5 p.m., Westport’s Center Stage Theatre Company will present two benefit performances of Eve Ensler’s comic, often poignant, play, “The Vagina Monologues.” (See cast and crew in photo.) Ninety percent of the profits will benefit the Domestic Violence Crisis Center, the only organization providing counseling, court advocacy, temporary shelter, children’s services, prevention education and a 24-hotline to the communities of Stamford, Norwalk, Westport, New Canaan, Darien, Wilton and Weston; the other 10 percent of the proceeds will go to V-Day’s City of Joy, Earthquake Victims in Haiti.
This is the second year of the performance, which is part of the V-Day movement, a global activist initiative aimed at stopping violence against women and girls. In 11 years, the movement has raised over $80 million and reached over 300 million people in 130 countries.
For tickets, which are $25, $35 and $50, call the Westport Country Playhouse box office at (203) 227-4177 or visit westportplayhouse.org.
