It's Time for Taste of Hartford to Heat Up Capital With Great Dining Deals

Get out your calendar, pick up the phone—Monday’s the first day of Taste of Hartford, your chance to sample an array of amazing bargain prix fixe menus from some of the capital’s best restaurants. The event continues through Feb. 2.

You'll be amazed at what you get for $20.14. At La Fonda, for example, you get a chicken or beef empanada appetizer, choice of three entrées—entraña asada (skirt steak), salteado de churrasco con camarones, (grilled top sirloin and shrimp), or cazuela de mariscos (seafood chowder), plus flan or strawberries and cream for dessert. At City Steam (citysteambiz.com), $20.14 gets you the brewpub’s signature beer sampler (Crème de la Crème, The Naughty Nurse, Blonde on Blonde and Innocence) along with soup/salad, mac & cheese or beer-braised pot roast, and a sundae for dessert.

Dish Bar & Grill is offering an especially varied menu of global dishes, with three starters to choose from, Angry Lobster Bisque, crispy duck croquettes and beet salad; five entrées—crispy pork shank, Atlantic salmon noodle bowl, stuffed peppers, braised veal Stroganoff and, for a $8 supplement, filet mignon Bordelaise with black garlic potato purée and roasted asparagus. Dessert is Black Bottom banana pudding or Dish’s famous chocolate cream pie.

And that’s just the beginning. More than 20 other restaurants are participating—including Max Downtown, Feng Asian Bistro, O’Porto, Vito’s by the Park, Peppercorn’s Grill, ON20, Vivo, Bin 228, Salute and more. See full list here. Note: A couple (Carbone’s and Morton’s The Steakhouse, to name two) have $28.14 prix fixes, so check with the individual restaurants or the Taste of Hartford website.

One hotspot that's already published its restaurant week menu is ON20, which is located on the 20th floor of the Hartford Steam Boiler building, has gorgeous views of Connecticut's capital, and has talented young chef Jeffrey Lizotte at the helm.

This is such a great chance to try a place you've always wanted to go to, or revisit an old favorite. But be sure to make reservations—this is a popular event and restaurants fill up fast. And do remember that prix fixe prices do not include tax or gratuity.
