The Milford Oyster Fest is This Weekend!
The phrase “something for everyone” is a bit tired, but when it comes to 39th Annual Milford Oyster Festival on Saturday, it really fits the bill.
The Saturday event includes amusement rides, an art-and-crafts show on the green, a large children’s entertainment area and a classic car show. There are canoe and kayak races, a schooner cruise and a “Big Toys” area featuring Extreme Bungee, a BMX Stunt Bike Riders demo, outdoor bowling and a Mobile 1 Race Car Drive simulator. And let’s not forget the live entertainment all day at the Mainstage, culminating with Blues Traveler (at 3:45) and also featuring hometown boy Frank Viele as an opening act. (Past headliners have included Kansas, Marshall Tucker Band Soul Asylum and Joan Jett.)
And we haven’t even gotten to food! Every festival food you have ever eaten or dreamt about—hot dogs, fried dough, fried shrimp, pulled pork, clam chowder, lobster rolls, Italian ice, gyros, corn on the cob—can be found at the food court, manned by volunteers from the Milford Kiwanis, the Knights of Columbus, St. Ann’s Church and others. Soda, lemonade, beer and wine are available, too.
And then there are lots and lots of oysters and clams, of course—20,000 of 'em, from “some of the most prominent oyster growers on the East Coast,” according to event organizers.
But who's counting?! It looks like the stellar weather we’re having will continue through Saturday, so come on down!
The event takes place from 10 to 6 on Aug. 17, rain or shine. Admission is free. The Milford Oyster Fest is This Weekend!
