"Who doesn’t love sitting lawn side on a nice summer evening listening to some fantastic music under the stars while enjoying a glass of wine? Gather your friends and join us at Harkness Memorial State Park, 275 Great Neck Road, Waterford, CT as we listen to great music at this beautiful venue," the Angelini Wine Ltd. website says in spreading the word about its support for the 2013 Summer Nights at Harkness Music Series.

The series continues with music legend Leon Russell this Wednesday, July 31, the Duke Ellington Orchestra Aug. 8 and a concert Aug. 15 with tenor Carl Tanner and the Connecticut Lyric Opera Orchestra called "Opera Under the Stars."

So there's great music at a great location--Harkness is located on the shoreline in Waterford--and, it turns out, there's also great food and wines.

Angelini, the Centerbrook company that specializes in fine Italian wines, announces on its website that it has donated the following wines, available in the VIP tent for the July 31 concert: Carpene Malvolti Brut Rosé, 2007 Angelini Estate Sangiovese Riserva, 2011 Cascina Cucco Chardonnay, and 2012 Fausti Passerina.

Harkness, meanwhile, says that VIP tickets, at $125 each, include the "VIP Hospitality Tent with Catered hors d'oeurves, wine & Beer. refreshments, dessert & coffee, Picnic Box dinners, Swag Bag, t-shirts and meet & greet with artists as permitted, VIP parking!"

Connecting the dots online shows that the wines mentioned in the VIP description, at least at this Wednesday's concert, are those Italian offerings from Angelini.

The picnic box dinners, meanwhile, will be pretty chic if they come, as indicated on the Harkness website, from Coffees Country Market in Old Lyme. The offerings, which non-VIP guests can purchase, include such fare as:

  • Seared Salmon Filet over Mixed Green with Pico de Gallo
  • Chicken Cesar Salad
  • Tomato & Mozzarella on a Sea Salt & Olive Oil Baguette with House Pesto Sauce
  • Assorted Brownies & Cookies

Great music and a great dining experience under the stars at a great venue--that definitely sounds like a perfect summer plan.
