As the New Haven Register reports, Yale University is taking the inauguration this weekend of its 23rd president, Peter Salovey, as an opportunity to open up the campus and its riches to the world Saturday—but the juiciest part of the plot line may be the fact that New Haven restaurants are celebrating Yale’s celebration by offering special dining deals throughout the weekend.
As the city honors Salovey’s ascendance to the helm—the formal inauguration ceremony takes place Sunday—Yalies and everyone else can reap the tasty and nicely-priced rewards at 18 of the city’s top restaurants, including such hotspots as Union League Café, Zinc, Ibiza and Heirloom.
Participating restaurants will offer several different dining options, each priced at $23. According to a release, these include a prix fixe lunch or dinner menu, a sampling of the restaurant’s favorite culinary offerings, or a bottle of wine. Yale’s inauguration website page explained that the $23 prix fixe lunches or dinners would include two or three courses, but not tax, gratuity or beverages.
Caseus Fromagerie & Bistro and Ordinary, for example, will both offer a $23 cheese and charcuterie platter with olives, pickled vegetables, mustard, jam, breads and nuts, the release said, while Miya’s Sushi will offer the “President Salovey’s Sushi Especial,” which includes a 10- piece sampler of some of Miya’s award-winning sushi creations made of organic fruits and vegetables and locally caught sustainable seafood. In addition to the deals offered by New Haven restaurants, there are a number of other appealing promotions being offered in the city in conjunction with the inauguration:
The restaurant promotion is carried out in partnership with Market New Haven, whose mission is to enhance the positive image of New Haven and to communicate its renaissance by promoting the city’s award-winning restaurants, world-class culture, unique shopping opportunities and renowned year-round events. Market New Haven is a public/private partnership among the City of New Haven and its Board of Aldermen, Yale University, Yale-New Haven Hospital and the local business community. How Yale's New President = Great Deals at Top New Haven Restaurants
