Want Bold Home Design, Savvier Style? Connecticut Event, Shop Have It
Remember when the mega retailer Target hit another high note in its quest to bring high design to folks at low price points by creating boutiques within its big-box stores via The Shops at Target?
One of the first, and still one of the best, was a unique Connecticut gem called Privet House in Litchfield County.
On May 3, Privet House is welcoming Connecticut design visionary Susanna Salk for an event centered on her latest book.

Susanna Salk, leading design maven and styleophile, will be signing copies of her latest book, ‘Decorate Fearlessly!’ at Privet House. She will be at the New Preston shop on Saturday, May 3rd from 3:00-6:00 PM. Privet House, a shopping destination for design enthusiasts, is the perfect location for this much anticipated book.
‘Decorate Fearlessly! : Using Whimsy, Confidence, and a Dash of Surprise to Create Deeply Personal Spaces’ includes a fabulous selection of uniquely designed rooms by such renowned interior designers as Mary McDonald, Ashley Hicks, Jamie Drake, Katie Ridder, The Novogratz and Jonathan Adler, among others. More than just a how-to-decorate book, ‘Decorate Fearlessly!’ inspires us to be bold and personal with our design choices. Salk gives us an insider’s view into these spectacular spaces while imparting design tips that will work for all: “Look how Miles Redd combines modern red and purple wallpaper patterns with traditional portrait paintings in this living room. It works because it’s personal and tells a story about who he is and what inspires him. And he did it with confidence. Confidence overrides all rules.”
As described by the publisher Rizzoli, “Spanning the spectrum from modern to traditional, bohemian to formal, design maven Salk highlights rule-breaking design ideas that celebrate whimsy and personal style over predictable, safe looks. Including more than 150 gorgeous photographs by top interiors photographers, including Tim Street-Porter, Pieter Estersohn, Simon Upton, to name a few, and organized according to every room of the house.”
“We are thrilled to be hosting this book signing to celebrate the publication of ‘Decorate Fearlessly!’ ” says Suzanne Cassano, co-owner of Privet House, “As with those designers highlighted in the book, Privet House has always believed in freedom of expression… in mixing vintage with new, refined with primitive and one culture with another. It is a perfect fit,”
