New Haven Open tournament director Anne Worcester was sitting at her office computer earlier this week when an email popped up in her inbox.
Subject line: “Hingis.”
Her initial reaction was to think former star Martina Hingis wanted to be a commentator for next month’s tournament in New Haven, or maybe it was something hall-of-fame related. Hingis was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame last weekend.
Worcester opened the emailed. Both guesses were wrong. Instead, it was Hingis’ agent, Alastair Garland, explaining his client's WTA tour comeback and requesting a wild card for New Haven’s doubles tournament.
