Gathering of the Vibes in Bridgeport, and Audience, in Full Swing; Sunday Is Family Day
Peter Hvizdak/New Haven Register
A scene from Friday, the first day of the 18th Annual Gathering of the Vibes at Seaside Park in Bridgeport.
As if the music wasn’t dazzling enough, Friday’s second day of 18th Annual Gathering of the Vibes brought something in the afternoon that put everything in a different light.
The warm, bright sun.
After a cool, rainy Thursday that made festival-goers in Bridgeport’s Seaside Park quickly forget about last week’s heat wave, Vibesters from near and far were ready for a reason to spread out a musical picnic or head to the beach.
And by time New Orleans’ funky Galactic hit the main stage — with members of The Revivalists joining in for a Stones jam at the end — people had all the heat and light they needed.
For Evelyn Johns, a Bridgeport native who now lives in Oxford — but used to play in Seaside Park in the summers as a child, and even went to circuses there — it was sweet and nostalgic to be back.
