In the wake of a nationwide FBI operation targeting underage prostitution, a Milford hotel worker said the FBI removed a juvenile from the premises who allegedly was being held against her will.

An employee at the Mayflower Motel on Woodmont Road said the FBI was at the business within the last two weeks inquiring about runaways. The agency later took the juvenile, whom the employee guessed was a runaway. The hotel worker asked not to be named.

Neither the FBI nor Milford police would comment about whether there was any activity at the Mayflower — or at any hotels in the city — related to the FBI’s Operation Cross Country. The operation took place over the weekend, according to a statement from the FBI.

The FBI Monday said that it, in concert with local and state law enforcement, had recovered five juveniles in Connecticut who may have been used for prostitution. One of the five juveniles had been in Milford, police said.

“The FBI has released all of the information it is prepared to release at this point in time,” Special Agent Dan Curtin of the New Haven bureau of the FBI said, when asked about the Mayflower. “The FBI will never disclose information about victims, let alone juvenile victims of sex trafficking.”

The Mayflower Motel employee said they had interacted with the juvenile when she had come to the front desk. The employee said the business does not tolerate illicit activity.

Milford police spokesman Officer Jeffrey Nielsen confirmed the department assisted the FBI in the investigation, but deferred to that agency for further information.

The FBI said it also arrested at least one person in Connecticut accused of being a pimp, but would not release that person’s name or information on what charges he/she might face.

“When there is information to provide, such as about arrests, indictments, etc., the FBI will do that with a press release in conjunction with the (U.S. attorney’s office),” Curtin said in an email.

The FBI also recovered juveniles in Groton and Waterbury.
