SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. >> Washington coach Rob Chandler may have summed up Friday’s game the only way possible.

“In Little League, there’s no safe lead.”

In an elimination game, and with the winner headed to the United States final, Westport rallied from seven runs down to tie the game in the bottom of the fifth inning. After a scoreless sixth, Westport put two runners on and then Chad Knight delivered.

Knight drove in Chris Drbal from third on a single into the left-center gap for the winning run to lead Westport to a 14-13 victory over Washington and advance to the Little League World Series U.S. title game.

Westport plays Chula Vista, Calif., for the U.S. title today at 3:30 p.m. (ABC).

“We knew we had a shot; I knew we’d battle,” Westport coach Tim Rogers said.

“I was really just speechless. For us to battle back, it was just amazing,” said Knight.

Westport (21-1) is the first team from Connecticut to play for the U.S. title since the 1989 Trumbull National team that won it all.
