Retired Sen. Joe Lieberman Discusses His Jewish Faith

The now retired senator from Connecticut, Joe Lieberman, speaks of his Jewish faith in a video posted to the website Jew in the City.

In the video taken last year, which takes place in Lieberman’s office in D.C., Lieberman speaks of his Jewish heritage and points in his life where he temporarily stop observing as an Orthodox Jew. It was when Lieberman’s grandmother passed away that he again began actively participating in the traditions of his faith, he said in the video. Lieberman also spoke of misconceptions of Orthodox Judaism in gender roles, and in the ability to hold fulfilling work while still being observant.

While in the senate, Lieberman would walk from his home to the Capitol to vote when observing the Sabbath.

“Jew in the City” is a website dedicated to informing other Jews and non-Jews about Orthodox Judaism and often features interviews with notable Jewish people.
