Flashback to '08: Mad Dog Russo: 'Himes! Himes! Himes!'

Flashback to '08: Mad Dog Russo: 'Himes! Himes! Himes!'

Just about every sports fan in Connecticut has fond memories of listening to the old Mike and the Mad Dog radio show on WFAN in New York, and watching the simulcast on the YES Network.

Christopher Russo (aka Mad Dog), a New Canaan resident, left the show in 2008 for Sirius/XM, but Mike Francesa's solo gig continued on WFAN, and YES continued to simulcast it -- that is, until today, when the last "Mike's On" simulcast aired. (YES will start simulcasting ESPN Radio's Michael Kay Show on Monday.)

The last YES simulcast brought about reminiscing on Twitter about the show's run on TV, which included several segments on politics.

One of them -- Russo and Francesa's analysis of the 2008 New Hampshire primary results -- got a lot of attention on Twitter.  (Russo proclaimed that "Milt Romney" was in serious trouble. But Keith Whamond, a longtime WFAN listener and friend of the blog, reminded us of this priceless clip of Russo ripping U.S. Rep. Chris Shays -- in this case, over Shays' performance during Congress' inquiry into steroid use in Major League Baseball -- and urging voters in Connecticut's fourth district to vote for Jim Himes.
