In this December 2012 file photo, then U.S. Sen. Joseph Lieberman shares a laugh with Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman and his wife, Hadassah, before a press conference at the Capitol building in Hartford. Lieberman announced he will start a scholarship fund for Connecticut high school students.

Former U.S. Sen. Joe Lieberman, the Democrat who became an Independent to hold onto to his seat in Connecticut, was reportedly among the guests at a roast Tuesday in Manhattan for former Vice President Dick Cheney.

A BuzzFeed story on the roast opens with the line "Dick Cheney is ready to laugh about waterboarding," and later tags Lieberman, saying, "Senator Joe Lieberman 'said something to the effect that it’s nice that we’re all here at the Plaza instead of in cages after some war crimes trial,' recalled one person who was there."

The BuzzFeed story portrays a status different than when Lieberman and Cheney opposed each other as vice presidential candidates in 2000.

But perhaps it shouldn't be unexpected that Lieberman was one of the names at a roast that one guest called "really tasteless," according to BuzzFeed, and which also featured former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld and former Attorney General Michael Mukasey, among other political notables.

After all, in 2006, referencing the issue of Iraq, former presidential candidate and current Secretary of State John Kerry called Lieberman the new Cheney.
