At least two Republican candidates for state office are now saying thanks, but no thanks, to donations they received from Lisa Wilson-Foley, who along with her husband pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge in a campaign scheme involving former Gov. John G. Rowland last month.

Mark Boughton on Lisa Wilson-Foley Donation: 'I would send back the check'

If he could, gubernatorial hopeful Mark Boughton would refund money his exploratory committee received from Lisa Wilson-Foley and her husband, who pleaded guilty as part of a campaign finance scheme last month. But he can’t, because he spent it already. “If there was a way to return the money, we would,” said Boughton, Republican mayor of Danbury. “The committee’s closed out, you can’t go back, so there’s no money to be able to refund — but certainly, that would be something we would do. John Rowland pleads not guilty to illegal campaign schemes

The drumbeat of allegations against felon and former Gov. John G. Rowland came to a crescendo Friday as Rowland made his first appearance in federal court to answer a series of federal campaign law violations that could put him behind bars for the rest of his life.
