Sarah Silverman Comes to Ridgefield Playhouse This Saturday

Sarah Silverman Comes to Ridgefield Playhouse This Saturday

Sarah Silverman.

Back in the 1930s and ’40s, people would go to the movies to escape from life in hard times. The price of admission included a double feature and a few beautiful hours in Shangri-la. Since then, many of the charming old movie houses were knocked down and turned into multiplexes. But that’s not the case at The Ridgefield Playhouse for Movies and the Performing Arts.

This depression-era gem was completely renovated in 2000, from stage to state-of-the-art sound system, while remaining true to its original 1938 design by architect Cass Gilbert Jr. And this year, the seats and sound system have been upgraded, again, and an electric car-charging station has been installed on the grounds. Original hand-painted murals by local artists and ornate architectural details remain and with just about 500 seats frame a gracious and intimate setting for concerts, plays, dance, lectures and, even movies. But more impressive is the list of headliners who play this hall each season. 2013 performers have included Jewell, Todd Rundgren, Buddy Guy, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Richard Lewis, David Sedaris, Steve Martin and Edie Brickell, and Sondheim himself! And before year's end, Cyndi Lauper, LeAnn Rimes and Lisa Marie Pressley will be added to the list.

On Sept. 14, brilliant comedian and satirist Sarah Silverman graces the stage to dish out her irreverent stand up. Silverman has received an Emmy nomination for outstanding leading actress in a comedy series for "The Sarah Silverman Program," and was also nominated for outstanding guest actress in a comedy series for "Monk." She's also won an Emmy for outstanding original music and lyrics as one of the writers of a song for "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" and  is the author of the bestseller The Bedwetter: Stories of Courage, Redemption and Pee. She'll begin production on Seth McFarland's 'A Million Ways to Die in the West" this year.

Silverman is the author of the New York Times bestseller  The Bedwetter: Stories of Courage, Redemption and Pee. - See more at: http://www.ridgefieldplayhouse.org/event/sarah-silverman#sthash.2SL6ORJA.dpuf
