Final preparations are underway before the start of the 2013 Durham Fair.

Tents are being installed, a rollercoaster is set up, barns are ready for the animals and various exhibits and souvenir booths from around New England are getting ready for the town’s four-day showcase, which will kick off its 94th year on Thursday, officials said.

The Durham Fair is sticking with its motto of “Good, Clean, Wholesome, Fun” by offering tons of activities and plenty of food for children and family to enjoy, fair organizers said.

“We have more crafters and more outdoor vendors than the previous year,” said Debbie Huscher, marketing coordinator for the fair. “Things are very exciting right now down at the fairgrounds.”

More than 10,000 exhibits in art, baking, canning, crafts and collections will greet visitors to the fair, which runs until Sunday at the fairgrounds on Route 17.

Changes for this year’s event include the Connecticut Wine Festival tasting event on the town green. The festival will be held here for the first time and feature seven of the state’s top wineries with their homegrown grapes, organizers said. Fair association president Dan Miramant recently said the event was added to educate guests and to “make it more agriculturally focused. “

A Connecticut Agriculture Tent devoted to locally grown agriculture and an old-fashioned Ferris wheel will also be added to the green, along with three other rides available for the younger kids, Huscher said.

To attract a younger crowd, officials booked two of country music’s most recognizable stars to headline the entertainment portion of the fair. Justin Moore, who last year received an American Country Awards nomination in the “Artist of the Year: Breakthrough Artist” category, will perform on Friday at 7:30 p.m. He boasts a background that includes tours with some of the biggest names in the country music genre, including Hank Williams Jr. and the Rascal Flats. The following night, Grammy-nominated artist Josh Turner will take to the fairgrounds. Turner has sold more than five million albums and garnered four No. 1 hits for songs such as “Your Man” and “Why Don’t We Just Dance.”
