Classic Cars Tour, Festive Westport Event Sunday Aid Fight Against Autism

A scene from a past Concours d'Elegance event.

If you see a string of classic cars looking gorgeous today (Sept. 22) as they tour the leafy early-autumn-blushed back roads of lower Fairfield County, you’ve encountered the 2013 Nutmeg Tour for Autism, which benefits Autism Programs at St. Vincent’s Behavioral Health Services—and which ends in a festive Classic Car Reception & Lawn Party in Westport, beginning at 4 p.m., that features food, drinks, fun activities (like key making) for kids and a silent auction.

There’s still time to get in on the classic event, on a day with a classic feel. More information and tickets for the reception are available online at the Fairfield County Concours d’Elegance website. (Children under 12 attend for free.)

The event consists of 40 to 50 classic and collectible vehicles touring throughout lower Fairfield County on a route designed by Rich and Jean Taylor of Vintage Rallies.

The tour begins at St. Vincent’s Westport Campus on Long Lots Road and winds its way to its first stop at the Alden Sherman Classic Car Show in Weston, according to a release, which details the route: The tour vehicles will be on display as part of their show for approximately an hour, and the tour then travels to Danbury Porsche/Audi/VW, where the Best Porsche 911 celebrating its 50th anniversary will be chosen from the tour field.

Then it’s on to Dragone Classic Cars in Westport to re‐group for a Westport Police motorcycle escort lead parade through town to Veterans’ Memorial Green for the Classic Car Reception & Lawn Party from 4 to 6 p.m.

The reception welcomes the tour vehicles to Veterans’ Memorial Green with a champagne toast and is a major fundraiser supporting Developmental Services and the Program at St. Vincent’s Behavioral Health Services. Bistro du Soleil provides catering and Tito’s Handmade Vodka provides the signature Concours Cocktail.

A fundraising silent auction that’s part of the reception includes items such as a 5 day, 4 night three-bedroom ski vacation at Smuggler’s Notch in Vermont, Track Days provided by the Drivers Club at Lime Rock Park in Salisbury, a child’s BMW bicycle provided by Callari Auto Group, a year’s vehicle storage provided by CT Car Storage, an item from Simon Pearce of Westport, Westport Country Playhouse tickets and much more.

“Join the Westport Arts Center at the Children's Zone during the Classic Car Reception and Lawn Party, and come participate in a fun art stations where you can design and create your own key chains. Fun for all ages,” the release invites.

Also at the reception, awards will be presented, including: Best Porsche 911, Best Jaguar XK, Kid’s Choice – Coolest Car (chosen by participants in the Developmental Services and Autism Program at St. Vincent’s).

Additionally, there’s the Sharing the Passion Award, which is presented annually to individuals who use their participation in classic vehicle collecting and restoration for community good.

“Come help support the Autism Programs at St. Vincent’s and enjoy an afternoon of classic cars and refreshments,” the release says. “To date, our efforts have raised more than $120,000 in support of their programs.”
