New Haven blues guitarist Rocky Lawrence will record his CD, tentatively entitled “Me, Myself and I,” Monday night in Anna Liffey’s on Whitney Avenue in New Haven.

During the 14 years since New Haven blues guitarist Rocky Lawrence last released an album, he’s carved out an international career as a touring blues artist, playing with some of the best-known people in the genre and at festivals from Mississippi to Chicago to Italy to Brazil.

What he hasn’t done is put out a new album, but that’s about to change.

“The record company’s been bugging me for years,” he said. “Time to pull the trigger.”

Lawrence, who grew up in New Haven and West Haven and lives in the city’s Westville section, will record a new CD live on Monday at his regular Monday night gig at Anna Liffey’s, 17 Whitney Ave. Showtime is 8:30 p.m. Admission is free.

He’s looking to pack the place with friendly faces.

“It would be nice to have the nicest crowd possible,” Lawrence said.

Lawrence probably is best known for his association with the late David “Honeyboy” Edwards, for the night in 2004 when Keith Richards of The Rolling Stones joined them onstage at a club date at The Boxcar in Fairfield, and for his re-creation and re-interpretation of Robert Johnson songs.

Johnson’s music was the subject of his previous album. But that’s only a small part of what he does live, and Johnson, a master of Mississippi Delta blues, will not be the subject of the upcoming album, he said.

“Robert Johnson’s what got me noticed, and basically Robert Johnson is what’s taken me around the world,” Lawrence said. “On the circuit, no one even knows I play electric guitar.”
