The Magic of Motown, one of the area's most popular acts, will perform at the festival.

Shortly after he formed East West Productions, an agency for promoting musical artists and entertainers, Mark Gravino’s phone rang. The year was 1995. On the other end of the line was a mentor of his who happened to be involved with the U.S. military. He needed Gravino’s help in sending bands overseas to perform for the troops, he said. For this, the mentor added, he had a substantial budget.

Call it a lucky break for the man who, on any given weekend, has an imprint on the musical offerings up and down the Connecticut shoreline and who’s also the driving force behind the entertainment at the East Haven Fall Festival, which runs from today (Sept. 6) through Sunday on the East Haven Town Green.

Except it wasn’t luck. It was, in a way, what Gravino had been working toward his whole life.

Meanwhile, this year’s East Haven Fall Festival will feature the Bronx Wanderers, with its dynamic mix of oldies, doo-wop, and rock ‘n’ roll on Friday night. On Saturday night, Grammy-Award winning balladeer Gary Puckett and the Union Gap take the stage. For fans of The Temptations, Diana Ross & The Supremes, and the Four Tops, there’s the Magic of Motown on Sunday afternoon. It all takes place on the East Haven Green.

The hours of the festival are 6 to 11 p.m. Friday, noon to 11 p.m. Saturday and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday. For more information, visit www.townofeasthavenct.org/ffest-home.shtml.
