Aldrich Museum Marks 50th Anniversary with New Exhibits, Open House

In 1981, the board at the Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum in Ridgefield made what for a museum was a radical decision—from that point on it  would no longer be a collecting museum and would remove all the permanent items currently in the collection. The decision was made so the museum could better fulfill its mission of presenting contemporary art. The move also made the museum more unique; it is the only museum in Connecticut, and one of only a handful in the country, without a permanent collection. 'When The New Yorker Moved to Connecticut'; Westport a Hotbed for Covers

Eve Potts was looking through a book of The New Yorker covers and noticed that hundreds had been created by artists who lived in and around Westport, a town where she had lived for many years. Eventually she was to discover that 17 artists who lived in the Westport area produced 767 covers between 1925 and 1989.

Jazz Lives: Photos of Lee Friedlander, Milt Hinton Coming to Yale

From April 4 through Sept. 7, Yale University Art Gallery will be celebrating jazz photography in Jazz Lives: The Photographs of Lee Friedlander and Milt Hinton. The show, Yale says, brings together “extraordinary images that capture the people, spirit and history of jazz.”
